Another suspect arrested in Phoenix teen's murder

The victim, 15, was a cheerleader at West Point High School.

PHOENIX — A second suspect was arrested June 5 for his alleged involvement in the death of a teenage girl last September in Phoenix.

Jason “JJ” Richards, 16, was booked into a juvenile correctional center on several charges, including murder, after being linked to a shooting that killed 15-year-old Giaginette Brown.

The West Point High School student was shot while sleeping in her bed at a home near 107th Avenue and Camelback Road. The incident occurred early in the morning of September 3, 2023.

Phoenix police previously said Brown may have been shot unintentionally during a targeted drive-by shooting.

A 17-year-old suspect was arrested in January for the shooting and Richards was then identified as a possible suspect.

Police said there may be other people involved in the shooting. Anyone with information about the incident can call 480-WITNESS.
