Another fire breaks out in Shasta County, this one near Dersch Road

In a week that has already seen numerous fires break out in Shasta County, another fire broke out Friday morning — the latest on Dersch Road, east of Palo Cedro, which had grown to 35 acres and was spreading quickly.

The fire had grown to 6 acres by 11 a.m., and firefighters alerted the California Highway Patrol that a vehicle may have been dragging an emergency tow chain behind a green Toyota, according to emergency scanner traffic.

By 11:30 a.m., the fire had grown to 35 acres, spreading rapidly with spot fires breaking out ahead of the moving flames, according to crews on scene.

A fire official requested five additional fire trucks, three manual teams, three water tankers and two additional bulldozers to help fight the blaze, according to scanner traffic.

Sheriff's Department officials also requested assistance in fighting the fire. The fire was raging near Scharsch Road, according to traffic sensors.

Dersch Road has been closed at Highway 44 and Ash Creek Road. Evacuations have also been ordered in the area of ​​Dersch Road and Ash Creek Road.

Several other fires have broken out in the past week, while the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning. High temperatures are expected to reach 117 degrees on Friday and 118 degrees on Saturday, the weather service said.

Crews that had been assigned to a 98-acre fire in Happy Valley were released Friday morning to help fight the blaze on Dersch Road, according to scanner traffic.
