Anchorage man convicted of stabbing woman, setting car on fire, sentenced to 50 years in prison

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A man convicted of murdering a woman by stabbing her and then setting her car on fire with her inside was sentenced Thursday to 50 years in prison and an additional 10 years of probation.

Anchorage Superior Court Judge Jack McKenna sentenced Trevor Babcock, 47, to 70 years in prison, with 20 years suspended for the Nov. 22, 2019, death of Elsie Jackson.

Police said Babcock was sitting in the back seat of his car, driven by Jackson, with his wife in an East Anchorage neighborhood when he stabbed her seven times for “being mean.”

According to an affidavit filed in court at the time, Babcock added that Jackson then began stabbing him with a knife. He told police he took the knife and stabbed Jackson multiple times, moved her to the front passenger seat and placed her upside down so her head was resting against the floor mat. ground.

He told police he then drove the vehicle to an area around Cheney Lake and set the driver's seat on fire, rolling down the windows so the flame could feed.

McKenna said in a statement from the Alaska Department of Law that Babcock's behavior was “largely unprovoked and inexplicable.”
