An illegal marijuana store was busted in New York for printing fake labels, according to the sheriff's office. Here's what they found.

NEW YORK (WCBS) — As New York City's crackdown on illegal marijuana stores continues, investigators say they've found a store making its own colorful, deceptive cartoon packaging in Brooklyn.

The New York Sheriff's Office seized at least 50 pounds of marijuana behind the blacked-out storefront Tuesday in Sheepshead Bay.

CBS New York's Ali Bauman was there as the sheriff's office searched the unlicensed store for more than $1 million worth of marijuana in all its forms.

Investigators said the products had already been packaged for distribution using a printing press found inside the store.

“Some of these labels say the product is from California, which it is not, and it is child-friendly packaging, which is putting our community at risk right now,” said New York Sheriff Anthony Miranda.

Miranda said the printer is a clear indication that the location is distributing unregistered and untaxed cannabis to unlicensed stores throughout the city.

“This is the first printing press we have recovered and it will be part of the ongoing investigation,” he said.

Investigators also recovered chemicals used to flavor marijuana.

“In the illegal market, when they mix chemicals into the flowers, people are no longer smoking cannabis, they are smoking the chemicals that are mixed into it,” Miranda said.

He said it was “clearly mislabeling” and that the sheriff's office was tipped off to the location through complaints from neighbors.

“All we’re looking for in our inspections, and the reason we’re here to do this, is that this store is identified as such, this location needs to be closed,” he said. “We hear your complaints, we respond to them. And please make sure you keep us informed.”

The seized products were kept as evidence. The store will be fined and at least two of the employees will be prosecuted for counterfeiting.
