An attempted kidnapping was reported near Mission Bay on Saturday

SANDIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Authorities are searching for two suspects who allegedly attempted to kidnap a child in Mission Bay Saturday afternoon.

The San Diego Police Department said a call came in shortly before 1:30 p.m. to report the incident, which occurred in the 1700 block of E Mission Bay Drive.

Police told FOX 5/KUSI the alleged attempted kidnapping was related to a custody dispute between family members and was not a random act.

Currently, one person of interest is in custody, while two others remain at large.

Police described the first suspect as a Hispanic man who was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, a camouflage fishing hat, shorts and sunglasses.

The second suspect was also described by police as a Hispanic male, approximately 5'10″ tall and in his 50s. The individual was last seen wearing a tan T-shirt and Levi's.

The suspects appeared to be heading north toward the San Diego resort town of Mission Bay, police said.

Authorities are also looking for a firearm, although no shots have been reported in connection with the incident.

This situation is not related to recent kidnapping attempts in Mission Valley.
