BUFFALO, N.Y. (WJW) — An American Airlines flight made an emergency stop in New York City Wednesday after investigators said a passenger exposed himself to others on the plane.

Niagara Frontier Transit Authority police officers responded to the call at Buffalo Niagara International Airport, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York.

A flight attendant told airport police that a man, later identified as Neil McCarthy, 25, of Oregon, allegedly exposed himself during the flight and urinated in the aisle, according to the criminal complaint.

McCarthy was escorted off the plane and arrested. He is charged with indecent exposure and faces up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine.

A spokesperson told People in a statement that the flight, originally scheduled to depart from Chicago to Manchester, New Hampshire, made an emergency landing in Buffalo due to a “disruptive customer.”

Court documents indicate McCarthy made his first court appearance Thursday afternoon before being released on his own recognizance.
