Ambulance called to treat drunk teen as crowd descends on woods to party

Police released a statement after several issues surfaced related to teenagers partying in a wooded area of Sabden.

The last two Fridays have seen “a large number” of teenagers heading to a wooded area near Back Lane.

Police say the parents gave their children alcohol and dropped them off at the scene.

The police had to be deployed on site.

On one occasion, an ambulance was called to treat an intoxicated teenager.

When it arrived, some teenagers decided to bump into the side of the ambulance and attempt to climb aboard. Police assistance was requested.

An elderly farming couple said they were awakened by teenagers wandering around their farm, disturbing animals and letting cows and calves run free.

The teens also left a lot of damage behind, including 71 nitrous oxide canisters and a “frighteningly large hunting knife.”

A police spokesperson said: “The last two Friday evenings a large number of teenagers have attended the wooded area of Back Lane in Sabden for parties.

“Many were given alcohol and dropped off by their parents.

“Additional police officers had to be deployed on site to deal with the incidents.

“An ambulance called for help when, while treating an intoxicated teenager, several other people decided to knock on the side of the ambulance and try to climb in.

“An elderly farming couple were awakened by hundreds of teenagers roaming their farm, disturbing the animals, entering a field with cows and calves and setting them free.

“Groups are also reported to have been walking late at night and early morning on national country roads at limited speeds, intoxicated, with little regard for traffic and risks.

“General disorder and noise pollution [was reported].

“The image contains the damage left at the scene (including 71 large cans of nitrous oxide) and, chillingly, a large hunting knife recovered at the scene whose sole purpose was to be used as a weapon.

“I don't know if there will be more gatherings of this nature, but if you're a parent of a teenager, sometimes being a parent means being unpopular and saying no.”
