Amber Portwood and Gary Wayt end engagement after his disappearance

Amber Portwood and Gary Wayt have called off their engagement following his headline-making disappearance.

“They decided it was over between them and their engagement was off,” a source told Us Weekly. “They have too much to overcome to move forward together.”

The insider noted that the “Teen Mom” ​​alum got “some closure” and maintained that Wayt didn't “ghost her,” but acknowledged that the couple's engagement caused “tension” within from his family.

“Gary's family was looking her up online and looking into her past and not everything they saw online was true,” the source added, “and it was hard for Amber because she tried so hard to move past this and move forward.”

A representative for Portwood did not immediately respond to Page Six's request for comment.

Wayt, 39, went missing earlier this month, prompting the MTV alum, 34, to speak out and report the mystery to police.

“It’s a huge deal, his parents, everyone is very worried. I'm worried,” the MTV star said in an emotional video posted Wednesday on YouTube.

“There was no big fight or anything like that, okay. He's currently missing.”

Portwood denied reports that she and Wayt had gotten into an “explosive” fight before her disappearance, saying she and her then-fiancé were “very much in love.” She did, however, note that Wayt had “mental health issues,” but did not disclose any details.

Wayt was later spotted in surveillance video recorded in Oklahoma, hundreds of miles from North Carolina, where he was last seen with Portwood.

On Friday, June 14, the Town of Bryson Police Department announced on Facebook that Wayt had been “located” and the case was officially “closed,” but did not share any additional information.

Portwood hasn't spoken out since Wayt returned home, but she deleted him from her Instagram account.
