Amber Alert: 2 Louisiana girls missing after mother's murder

LORANGER, La. — Louisiana State Police have issued an “Amber Alert” for two missing children who were last seen at 56044 N. Cooper Road in Loranger.

The children, Erin Brunett, 4, and Jalie Brunett, 6, were reportedly abducted before 8 a.m. Thursday.

Erin is about 3 feet tall and weighs 32 pounds, while Jalie is about 4 feet tall and weighs 58 pounds. The clothing of the two girls at the time of their abduction is unknown at this time.

A 35-year-old Loranger woman who was last in contact with her family Tuesday evening was found dead inside her home, her car missing and her two young children missing, the county's office said Thursday. Sheriff of Tangipahoa Parish.

Her two young children, Jalie and Erin, have not been found and detectives are asking anyone with information to contact 911 immediately.

“There's nothing we can do for the victim,” said Jimmy Travis, chief of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office. “Our priority is to find these children and return them to their families.”

Travis said Callie Brunett was reported missing after her family had not been in contact with her since Tuesday evening. Travis said that because her car was not at the home, the family had no reason to believe she was there, but at one point Brunett's father came in to check on her and found her dead in the room.

The circumstances of his death have not been determined, but Travis said detectives believe it was a homicide. In the “Amber Alert” issued shortly afterward, LSP said officers were seeking a white man for questioning about what they called a domestic violence incident, which was believed to have occurred around the time of the kidnapping. and homicide.

Travis said the FBI and law enforcement from other parishes were involved and a foot search of the area was going to be conducted. Travis said there was no indication the children were nearby but they covered all the bases.

Travis is asking the public and anyone who knew Brunett and may have seen her recently to come forward with information on people she may have hung out or interacted with.

State police said the suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous, and extreme caution is required.
