Alligator snatches drone during sheriff's office training course, Florida video shows

Alligators are known to eat almost anything, and one of them proved it when it attacked a marine drone in southwest Florida – while the device was being used as part training of law enforcement.

The strange encounter occurred shortly after noon on Friday, June 9, in Lee County, about 125 miles south of Tampa.

“While the Lee County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit was training in Fort Myers, this insta-gator latched onto the underwater drone!” »wrote the sheriff's office in a Facebook post.

The drone recorded the encounter, but its perspective is from below. This means viewers see the alligator's white chin and belly rather than its jaws.

The video shows the alligator appeared to be playing with the device, spraying it with water and dragging it.

The sheriff's office did not report any damage.

A Florida alligator “snagged” on a marine drone while it was being used for training by the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the incident was recorded.

Marine drones and sonars are used by the maritime unit for a mission that includes patrolling waterways, performing rescues, and conducting boating and swimming accident investigations.

The video has been viewed nearly 8,000 times and sparked hundreds of reactions and comments on social media.

“And what did we learn from this training? Carolyn Wigginton joked.

“I probably thought this thing would make a good snack,” Cindy Uzzell wrote.

“You shouldn’t play with prehistoric animals!” It’s a good way to get eaten,” Troy Fry said.
