Alleged killer is competent to stand trial

A Bowling Green man who allegedly shot two people has been found competent to stand trial.

An evaluation to determine whether he is not guilty by reason of insanity has not been completed.

Xiaosong Wang, 63, was transported from the jail to the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Joel Kuhlman on Thursday.

A Mandarin interpreter was used.

Kuhlman said he received the report from the court's Diagnostic and Treatment Center indicating Wang was capable of understanding the charges against him and assisting in his defense.

He said the not guilty by reason of insanity report had not been submitted.

“When the report is received, we will have to decide how we proceed from there,” Wood County Prosecutor Paul Dobson said.

An NGRI hearing was set for July 11 and Wang's trial dates of September 9-18 were confirmed.

Wang was charged in September for the deaths of Bing Luan Lin, 40, and Zhichun Huang, 36, as well as the injuries of Renshuang Qiu, 44.

The incident happened shortly after midnight on September 17 on Monroe Court. Lin and Huang were two owners of the Bowling Green Ninja Hibachi Sushi Steak House restaurant and Qiu and Wang were employees there.

An argument reportedly broke out in the residence where several restaurant employees lived. It is alleged that Wang fired a .45 caliber handgun, killing two people and injuring a third.

Wang was charged with two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, three counts of felonious assault and two counts of possession of criminal tools.

He remains in jail on $3 million bail.
