Alleged assault at Novato Middle School – NBC Bay Area

Novato detectives arrested eight city middle school students earlier this week for an alleged assault on a fellow student on their campus, police said.

Last Friday, around 1 p.m., Novato police were alerted to a reported assault at Sinaloa Middle School. The initial investigation revealed that after lunchtime, a group of students planned to assault another student.

As the first student was attacked, other students gathered around and began recording the assault with their phones while cheering him on. A second student who intervened to break up the fight was also attacked, police said.

Both students suffered moderate injuries and were sent to the hospital for evaluation and medical treatment.

On Tuesday, members of the Novato police investigation section arrested eight Sinaloa middle school students who allegedly started the conflict. The suspects, aged 12 to 14, were booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of conspiracy and felonious assault.

Anyone who sees or suspects a dangerous situation, especially on a school campus, can call Novato law enforcement or notify school officials immediately, police said.

Those with more information about the assault are asked to contact Novato police at (415) 897-4361 and refer to case no. NP24-1608.
