All four teen suspects arrested after upstate stolen vehicle chase ends with manhunt in Franklin Co. | Police blotters

BURKE — A police pursuit that began four hours south ended Saturday morning after an all-night manhunt in Franklin County.

According to a state police news release, troopers initiated a pursuit Friday afternoon of a stolen vehicle with stolen long guns in the town of Berkshire in Tioga County, about 30 minutes east of southeast of Ithaca and more than four hours south of Malone.

The pursuit ended when the driver of the stolen vehicle drove into a field near the intersection of 70th Road and Spencer Road in Burke, police said. The car became stuck and the suspects fled into a wooded area.

State police apprehended two suspects Friday afternoon and two others remained at large.

Law enforcement maintained a perimeter around Coveytown Road in Burke overnight while federal, state and local agencies searched the woods for the two suspects, Jaden Labare, 17, and Devan Smith Bell, 16 years old, police said.

State police, U.S. Border Patrol, state rangers and the Tri-County Task Force set up a perimeter around Coveytown Road in Burke, police said, with K9 units and several law enforcement agencies actively searching wooded and surrounding areas overnight.

Early Saturday, Spencer Road in the town of Burke was lined with law enforcement, while other officers were seen in a field off Route 11.

Additionally, a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol helicopter hovered over the area above us.

Police say around 10 a.m. Saturday, the two suspects were located at a camp north of Route 11 by the State Police Special Operations Response Team and K9s.

The teenage suspects were taken into custody without incident.

The four suspects, aged 15 to 17, were transported to the state police barracks in Malone for arraignment. Police said the suspects came from different parts of New York, including Plattsburgh, Amherst and Buffalo.

The 17-year-old suspect from Plattsburgh, the 16-year-old suspect from Buffalo and the 16-year-old suspect from Amherst were remanded to a juvenile detention center, police said, and the 15-year-old suspect was was returned to his parents.

The suspects were charged with criminal possession of stolen property, firearms and resisting arrest by state police, and all four were arraigned in the juvenile section of criminal court.
