Alexander County woman killed in Sunday fire identified

An Alexander County woman who died in a mobile home fire Sunday has been identified.

Elinor Martin, 80, was killed when her mobile home in the Alexander County community of Sugar Loaf caught fire, Alexander County Fire Marshal Mark Earle said Monday.

“The fire was accidental,” Earle said. “And it was caused by an extension cord going under an aluminum door.”

Earle said the fire happened shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday.

Martin's home is in the Frank Smith Mobile Home Park off NC Route 16. The mobile home park is less than a quarter mile from the Sugar Loaf Fire Department.
