Alec Baldwin shot crew member blank before fatal 'Rust' shooting: prosecutors

Alec Baldwin once shot a crew member blankly on the set of “Rust,” prosecutors alleged in new court documents, accusing the actor of being reckless with firearms while filming.

Prosecutors in the manslaughter case against the “30 Rock” star in New Mexico said they plan to present evidence at his trial — which is scheduled to begin July 9 — showing that Baldwin had the habit of flouting safety protocols on set, which led to Halyna Hutchins. 'Tragic shooting death in 2021.

One such reckless moment occurred when Baldwin, 66, pointed his gun and fired “a blank round at a crew member” while holding the target person in his line of sight , prosecutors alleged in Monday’s filing.

Other examples of Baldwin ignoring safety procedures between October 12, 2021 and the day of the shooting included using his gun as a pointer; fire this weapon after the end of filming in violation of safety regulations; holding his finger on the trigger in scenes that didn't require it; gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed rushes to reload her gun faster; and being on FaceTime with his family and making videos for them during firearms training, according to court documents.

And before filming even began, Baldwin — one of the producers and the film's lead actor — “requested to be assigned the 'largest' gun available,” the filing claims.

Prosecutors said they have photos and videos of Baldwin that they plan to show to a jury acting cavalierly with safety rules on set.

In one clip, he is seen “making a ruckus with his gun and drawing his gun when the scene did not require him to draw his gun,” the newspapers claimed. “When he draws his gun, the muzzle of the gun is pointed directly at another actor.”

Prosecutors said numerous clips show an angry and aggressive Baldwin, who can also be seen interrupting filming to yell and curse at the crew.

“Mr. Baldwin can be seen screaming intermittently throughout attempts to film the scene,” the filing claims. “He exerts complete control over the set by stopping the actor's sequence, swearing loudly and rushing the other cast and crew.”

Overall, this “intrinsic evidence” of Baldwin's “other acts” leading to Hutchins' death shows that the incident was not an “accident or mistake” – as Baldwin always maintained, prosecutors said.
