Albany teen charged with rape; others arrested for weapons possession

This shooting is the subject of an internal investigation by the Albany Police Department in conjunction with the Attorney General's Office and the Civilian Police Review Commission.

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) — An Albany teenager is facing a rape charge after an alleged assault. Police said several weapons were also found during their investigation.

A sexual assault was reported to Albany police on May 18. Police said a handgun was used for intimidation purposes during the attack. A 17-year-old boy from Albany was identified as the suspect.


On June 5, police executed a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of Lark Drive as part of an ongoing investigation. Police found four handguns, two of which were loaded. Several people were arrested, including the 17-year-old sexual assault suspect.

The 17-year-old was charged with one count of first-degree rape, one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of second-degree menacing and five counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. third degree. He was arrested and sent to a juvenile facility. His name is being withheld due to his age.

A 15-year-old girl has been charged with five counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. She will appear at Albany County Probation at a later date. His name is being withheld due to his age.

Chyna Dowdell, 19, of Albany, was charged with five counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. She was arraigned and sent to the Albany County Jail on $20,000 bail.

Shaheim Smith, 22, of Albany, was charged with five counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned and sent to the Albany County Jail on $40,000.

Octavia Smith, 40, of Albany, was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and six counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. She was arraigned and sent to the Albany County Jail.
