Alan Scarfe, Actor of 'Lethal Weapon 3' and 'Double Impact,' Dies at 77

The Anglo-Canadian artist also worked in theater and wrote fiction.

Alan Scarfe, the British-Canadian actor who played heavy roles in 1990s action films Lethal Weapon 3 And Double impact, died of colon cancer on April 28 at his home in Longueuil, Quebec, according to an obituary. He was 77 years old.

A Scarfe representative confirmed the news to Weekly Entertainment.

Born in Harpenden, England, Scarfe emigrated to Canada with his family while his father pursued an academic career. He studied at Lord Byng Secondary School in Vancouver and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and began a career as a performer and director.

As an actor, Scarfe was known for playing Internal Affairs chief Herman Walters, who went after Mel Gibson's Riggs and Danny Glover's Murtaugh in 1992. Lethal Weapon 3. The previous year, he appeared alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme as murderous businessman Nigel Griffith in Double impactand he played Dr. Bradley Talmadge in the Canadian time travel drama series Seven days opposite Jonathan LaPaglia from 1998 to 2001.

His other screen credits included Star Trek: The Next Generation, Kingdom Hospital, NYPD BlueAnd Stargate: Atlantis.

On stage, Scarfe has performed and directed across Europe, Canada and the United States, with roles ranging from King Lear and Othello to Cyrano de Bergerac, Doctor Faustus and Uncle Vanya. He worked as artistic director at the Stratford Festival from 1976 to 1977 and at the Everyman Theater in Liverpool from 1967 to 1968. As well as being an actor, Scarfe was an author who wrote novels, including The Revelation of Jack the Ripper.

Scarfe was married to Barbara March from 1979 until her death in 2019. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother Brian. Scarfe is survived by her daughter, Tosia Scarfe, and her husband, Austin; his son Jonathan Scarfe; brother Colin; and grandchildren Kai and Hunter Scarfe.
