Alamo fire chief resigns after 36 years

ALAMO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Alamo Fire Chief Roy Contreras has resigned after serving the community for 36 years.

Chief Contreras' resignation will be effective June 24, according to a press release from the Alamo City.


He served with the Alamo Fire Department for 36 years, including 18 years as a volunteer firefighter and 18 years as a municipal employee. He has led the Alamo Fire Department as chief for the past eight years.

The release said Contreras had accepted a new position as fire captain for the city of Alton.

“After a long and dedicated service to the Alamo City, Chief Contreras will bring his experience to the City of Alton,” said City Manager Bobby Salinas. “We are happy for him and fully support his future plans. The Alamo City wishes Chief Contreras good luck and success in his new role.

The Alamo City Public Information Officer told ValleyCentral that Lt. Efrain Vasquez will serve as interim fire chief.

Additionally, the city commission will have an agenda item to accept the resignation and appoint the interim.
