Akron man arrested twice in University Heights for robbery in eventful day

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — One time wasn't enough for an Akron man who was arrested twice during an eventful day that also included a trip to the hospital.

On June 21 at 1 p.m., Macy's Loss Prevention personnel, 2201 Warrensville Center Road, reported arresting a shoplifting suspect, a 55-year-old Akron man.

After being caught in the act, the man claimed he was suffering from a medical emergency. EMS was called to the scene to treat the suspect, who was charged with theft by police. The stolen merchandise totaled $694.79.

Police gave the man a court date in Shaker Heights Municipal Court on July 10 before firefighters transported him to the hospital.

Later that day, at 3:55 p.m., police received a call from the manager of Green Road Liquor, 2181 S. Green Road, who reported that someone was stealing items.

That “someone” was the Akron man, who hid six bottles of alcohol in a reusable shopping bag that he carried into the store.

This time, the value of the stolen goods was $359.94. The man, it was discovered, had forcibly removed the safety caps from the bottles.

Police cited the man again for theft and set another court date for him. This time, there were no medical issues.
