A&N Police Launch Drug Awareness Promotional Bus to Mark 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking'

In an important move to combat drug abuse and raise public awareness, the Inspector General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ms. Sindhu Pillai A, IPS, ceremonially flagged off the promotional bus Anti-Drug Awareness Center at Port Blair Police Headquarters. This event comes ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, highlighting the unwavering commitment of the Andaman and Nicobar Police to combat drug abuse and foster an informed community.

The anti-drug bus, prominently displaying banners with the message “Say no to drugs”, will pass through Port Blair and make strategic stops at key locations. At these stops, the bus will distribute educational materials and mobilize the community through street games (Nukkad Natak) and informative videos. This multifaceted approach aims to raise awareness among citizens, particularly young people, about the harmful effects of narcotics on health, relationships and society.

At the launch ceremony, Ms. Sindhu Pillai highlighted the crucial importance of the campaign, saying: “The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is a stark reminder of the global threat posed by drugs. Through initiatives such as the Anti-Drugs Awareness Promotional Bus, we aim to educate and empower our community to make informed decisions and reject the scourge of drug abuse.

This initiative is a key part of the Andaman and Nicobar Police's overall strategy to combat drug trafficking and reduce drug abuse. Proactive community engagement and robust educational outreach efforts aim to create a safer and healthier environment for all residents. The Anti-Narcotics Police Station of A&N Police, headed by Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, IPS, SP (CID), and Mr. Vishesh Dhatterwal, DANIPS, DySP (Narcotics), along with their team, played a commendable role in the fight against narcotics. drug threat.

The drug awareness promotional bus will visit colleges, markets and other public places, ensuring maximum reach and impact. At each stop, trained staff will lead interactive sessions and distribute brochures covering various aspects of drug abuse, including prevention, treatment options and legal ramifications. The street plays, performed by A&N Police's PET team, will present real-life scenarios to highlight the dangers of drug addiction and encourage audiences to adopt a drug-free lifestyle.

Mr. Sanjay Kumar Tyagi, IPS, DIGP (Intel), acknowledged the collaborative efforts of various community organizations, educational institutions and volunteers supporting this campaign. “The fight against drug addiction is a collective responsibility. By joining hands, we can create a resilient community that stands strong against the menace of drugs,” he said.

The Andaman and Nicobar Police urge all citizens to actively participate in the events organized by the Anti-Drug Awareness Promotional Bus and spread the message of a drug-free society.
