Aiken County Sheriff's Office Warns Public About Ongoing Phone Scams

AIKEN, SC (WJBF) – The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is alerting the public to a phone scam targeting people seeking to pay money under fake warrants and fines.

According to a public service announcement sent on Monday, June 17, “fraudsters are attempting to obtain funds from citizens by telling them they have defaulted on jury duty, have unpaid fines or warrants for arrest.” unexecuted judgment which must be paid immediately to avoid being arrested”.


Scammers claim to be associated with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office and other government agencies, even emailing photos of fictitious warrants.

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office said people with unpaid fines should pay them to the appropriate court clerk directly or by mail.

The ministry has provided the following advice to citizens to ensure their safety:

  • Unexecuted warrants will not be sent by email or text message.
  • Law enforcement/government agencies will not contact you to demand immediate payment of unpaid fines/warrants.
  • Be careful when giving out personal information over the phone.
  • Do not accept any payment over the phone for a company/agency you do not know.
