AG: Man shot in police-involved shooting in Manchester dies

The man shot in a police-involved shooting Friday morning in Manchester has died, according to a news release from Attorney General John M. Formella.

The incident happened in the Bridge and Ash Streets area of ​​Manchester.

The press release states:

“Shortly after 9:30 a.m., an officer on patrol in Manchester approached an adult male on Bridge Street to speak to him. The man informed the officer that he was armed with a gun, and the officer asked him to keep his hands visible. However, the man reached into his pocket to retrieve the firearm. A struggle ensued, during which the man fired what was later determined to be a pistol and the officer returned fire. The adult male was struck by these gunfire and transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy is scheduled to take place Friday night in Concord. The man's identity will be released following the autopsy and notification of next of kin.

“The officer involved in this incident was wearing a body-worn camera, which recorded the event. These images are currently being stored and will be reviewed. The officer was not physically injured,” the statement said.

The investigation into this shooting by the New Hampshire Department of Justice, with assistance from the New Hampshire State Police Major Crimes Unit, is ongoing. The identity of the officer who used deadly force will not be released until formal interviews have taken place; this is expected to occur within the next five to ten business days. The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain under active investigation.
