After missing TV presenter's body was found, his wife released statement: 'He almost made it'

Last week it was reported that famous TV personality Dr. Michael Mosley had gone missing while in Greece. Local authorities eventually opened an investigation into the matter and then spent days trying to find him. Sadly, it was announced early this morning that Mosley's body had been found and police have provided additional information on the situation. Meanwhile, Mosley's wife released her own statement, in which she paid tribute to her husband.

News of the discovery of the body of the 67-year-old media pundit and author was reported by the BBC and other notable media. According to the British media outlet, the body was found early Sunday on a hill near a beach bar in Agia Marina. Sometime after the news broke, Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley – Michael's wife – released a statement which was shared with People. She expressed sadness over the loss of her husband but, at the same time, she expressed gratitude for sharing her life with him:

I don't really know where to start. It's devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. We have had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and were so happy together. I am incredibly proud of our children and their resilience and support over the past few days.

Michael Mosley disappeared on Wednesday June 6, as initially reported by the Hellenic Police. When last seen, Mosley had gone hiking along St. Nicholas Beach in the early afternoon of the same day. Later in the evening, Clare contacted the authorities to alert them of the disappearance of her partner. CCTV footage appears to show the TV star walked across the bay amid intense heat and rocky paths. After Mosley's body was found, a police source told the BBC that he had been dead “for several days”. In her statement, Clare mentioned that her husband had taken the “wrong path”, before speaking about his “adventurous” spirit:

My family and I have been extremely comforted by the outpouring of love from people around the world. It is clear that Michael meant a lot to many of you. We are reassured to know that he almost succeeded. It made an incredible climb, took the wrong path and collapsed where it couldn't be easily seen by the vast search team. Michael was an adventurous man, which is part of what made him so special. We are so grateful to the amazing people at Symi who worked tirelessly to help find him. Some of these people on the island, who hadn't even heard of Michael, worked from dawn to dusk without being asked. We are also very grateful to the press who treated us with great respect. I feel so lucky to have our children and my amazing friends. Most of all, I feel so lucky to have had this life with Michael. Thank you all.

Born in Calcutta, India, in 1957, Michael Mosley joined the BBC in 1985 as a trainee production assistant after attending medical school. He would eventually serve as a presenter on various science-focused programs and help produce a number of them as well. His credits include a six-part series The history of science And Inventions that changed the worldwhich lasted five episodes in 2010.

As his career has progressed, the medical expert has arguably become even more synonymous with the field of health and wellness. One such documentary he produced on the subject was in 2012. The Truth About Exercise, which highlighted the benefits of physical activity and the costs associated with a sedentary lifestyle. What he is perhaps best known for is his promotion of intermittent fasting through the 5:2 diet and the Fast 800 diet. He mostly discussed the former during an episode of the Horizon docuseries, while he wrote about the latter in his book, The fast 800 keto. Besides his books and documentaries, he has also appeared on many overseas television shows, such as The only show And Believe me, I'm a doctor.
