Adams Fire burns in the lower Sycamore region of the Tonto Forest

PHOENIX (AZFamille) — A wildfire that started Sunday afternoon in the Lower Sycamore region of the Tonto National Forest has grown to thousands of acres in less than a day. Today, some residents in the area were ordered to prepare to evacuate.

The Adams Fire east of Fort McDowell was reported Sunday at 125 acres, but as of 10 a.m. Monday it had grown to more than 3,500 acres. It is currently at 0% containment.

The Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management has implemented “SET” status for the community of Goldfield Ranch, north of Highway 87.

17 engines, interagency crews, Mesa Medic, air attack, two VLATS, one heavy helicopter, one light helicopter and two Super Scoopers are assisting in the firefighting efforts. Officials said the Super Scooper planes would collect water from local reservoir lakes. People in the area are asked to use caution and stay away from the area where aircraft are scooping.

Authorities said they were avoiding the Lower Sycamore area completely during suppression operations.

The Fort McDowell Bureau of Indian Affairs, Tonto National Forest and the Department of Forestry and Fire Management are responding to the fire.
