Accident with injuries reported on I-75 near Fort Mitchell

YOUR MORNING ROUTE AND HOW LONG THE CLOSURES LAST. Also, a sheriff's deputy comes home from work to find someone breaking in to fight him. HAND-HAND COMBAT BEFORE FIRING SHOT. HOW? He says he fought to keep his family safe. And what we know about the suspect. We start the week cooler than average, but eventually that summer heat returns. I'll let you know when it arrives and how hot it will be. THIS IS WLWT NEWS FIVE LEADING THE WAY. ANOTHER GREAT REPLACEMENT COMING FOR YOUR DAILY ROUTES. GOOD EVENING EVERYONE AND THANK YOU FOR JOINING US TONIGHT AT 6 p.m. My name is CURTIS FULLER and my name is LINDSAY STONE. THE SECOND PHASE OF THE MONTH-LONG NORWOOD LATERAL PROJECT STARTS TONIGHT. AND RIGHT NOW, CREWS ARE WORKING TO CLOSED THE WESTBOUND LANES. WLWT NEWS FIVE'S DAISY KERSHAW JOINS US LIVE WITH A LOOK AT WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE ROADS. Hi, Daisy. Hello, Lindsay. THAT'S RIGHT. THESE BARRICADES ARE STARTING TO GO UP WHICH WILL CLOSED THE WESTBOUND LANES OF THE NORWOOD WOOD SIDE. THIS OFFICIALLY TAKES EFFECT AT 9:00 PM TONIGHT. AND CONSTRUCTION WILL CONTINUE FOR 80 DAYS. SO, ESSENTIALLY, FOR THE REST OF THE SUMMER, DRIVERS WILL HAVE TO FIND A WORKAROUND. AND SO JUST SOME ALTERNATIVE ROUTES THAT EVERYONE WILL BE AWARE OF. DRIVERS WILL BE DETOURED TOWARDS WASHINGTON WAY OR TOWARDS RONALD REAGAN HIGHWAY. NOW THAT THE FIRST PHASE IS COMPLETE, DRIVERS CAN CROSS THE NEW IMPROVED EASTBOUND LANES OF THE NORWOOD SIDE. BUT OF COURSE, FOR MANY, THE START OF PHASE TWO IS YET ANOTHER HEADACHE. SHARING A WIFE WILL COST GREAT DISRUPTION TO HER DAILY TRAVELS. STILL, SOME ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FINAL RESULTS AS I TAKE THE NORWOOD SIDE TO GO TO MADISONVILLE TO GET TO MY GRANDMOTHER'S HOUSE. So I had to take a different route. So that means I have to go all the way around and the traffic is just incredible. NOBLE. And I'm not a big fan of rush hour. SO. And I will be seated during rush hour due to the Norwood lateral being closed. AS LONG AS THIS MAKES THE ROADS BETTER, THEY WILL BE MUCH SMOOTHER. WE DON'T HAVE TO WORRY about potholes, so I'm all for it. So, just a small sacrifice to improve the roads. SO AGAIN, JUST A REMINDER. AT 9:00 PM TONIGHT, IF YOU ARE OUT, THE WESTBOUND LANES OF NORWOOD SIDE WILL BE OFFICIALLY CLOSED. BUT THE EASTBOUND LANES, OF COURSE, WILL REMAIN OPEN. REPORTING LIVE, DAISY KERSHAW WLWT NEWS FIVE. Very good, DAISY, THANK YOU. NEW TONIGHT, A HAMILTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTY IS TAKING ACTION AFTER A MAN ATTEMPTED TO BREAKING INTO HIS HOME. Police now tell us an off-duty deputy fired a gun at a 26-year-old man. DARRYL WILLIAMS WILLIAMS, HAS NOW BEEN CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED BURGLARY. WLWT, WLWT NEWS FIVE'S RICHARD CHILES WAS ON THE CHAOTIC SCENE ALL MORNING AND TELL US EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. I looked out my window and at me. I've never seen so many police officers, especially with those big long rifles. A LARGE POLICE PRESENCE FILLED THE EARLY MORNING IN THE AREA AROUND HUNT ROAD AND REDDING ROAD IN REDING. HAMILTON COUNTY SHERIFF AND REDING POLICE CALLED TO KEITH DRIVE FOR REPORTS OF AN INTRUDER. I may have interrupted progress at Keith Drive in Redding. THEY ASK FOR MUTUAL HELP. A police dispatch reveals a suspect was inside the Hamilton County Sheriff's home. DEPUTY RETURNING AT THE END OF HIS POSITION. I AM IN A PERSONAL RESIDENCE. Someone broke into my house while I was leaving work and attacked my family. Shots fired from an official statement from the sheriff's department. There was a confrontation during which our deputy fired his own weapon. THE INTRUDER LEFT THE SCENE. AT THIS POINT, FOR MORE THAN TWO HOURS, DRONES AND POLICE DOGS Scoured THE AREA LOOKING FOR A POSSIBLE SUSPECT. AS THE NEIGHBORS LOOK AT IT. When I looked outside and saw this whole crime scene around an officer's house, I was stunned. IT WAS FINALLY GIVEN BY 8:30 A.M. AS A SUSPECT WAS CAUTIONED BY CINCINNATI POLICE A FEW MILES AWAY. NEIGHBORS NOW RELIEF AS KEITH DRIVE RETURNS TO NORMAL. I always felt safe here. Number one, but especially with an officer living across the street. I was so stunned. But I'm so grateful he's okay. His family is fine, but you never know. RICHAR
