A young girl thwarts human traffickers; 3 people arrested in Guwahati

Guwahati: A girl from Dibrugarh district managed to escape from a gang of human traffickers in Guwahati on Saturday. The victim managed to escape from the gang while she was on her way to Jaipur. Three persons have been arrested by the Basistha police in connection with the incident and an investigation has been launched to trace any other person linked to the gang.

According to sources, the victim was sold for an amount of Rs 1.5 lakh, and two men were travelling with the victim in a bus from Tinsukia to Guwahati before they planned to fly from Guwahati to Jaipur.

Speaking about the incident, the victim mentioned that she was married to a man named Sunil Sharma from Jaipur, Rajasthan, according to a short marriage ritual. One of his acquaintances from Tinsukia had arranged this marriage, saying that Sunil was from Guwahati. She was not informed that he was not actually from Assam. However, during the bus ride to Guwahati, she overheard their conversation about the money they had received for this wedding. They also asked her to say that she had gotten married five years ago if anyone asked her and to hide the fact that she had recently married.

She also mentioned that she found out that they had sold many girls in this manner. She also managed to retrieve phone records and pictures from their mobile phones which this gang used to lure the girls and sell them in Rajasthan.
