A workshop against illicit drug trafficking organized by the Central Bureau of Narcotics in partnership with the Chemical Council of India

New Delhi : On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2024, a workshop was organized by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CBN) in partnership with the Indian Chemical Council, highlighting the crucial role of a voluntary code of conduct in the chemical sector. to combat the menace of drug abuse.

Shri Vivek Aggarawal, Additional Secretary (Rev), Revenue Department, Ministry of Finance, along with Shri Dinesh Bouddh, Narcotics Commissioner, Central Narcotics Bureau (CBN) lit the lamp and inaugurated the event. In his inaugural address, Sh Aggarwal highlighted the collective commitment towards a drug-free nation.

Highlighting the industry perspective, Mr. Rupark Sarswat, Chairman, ICC North Region and CEO, India Glycols Limited, shed light on the prospects of the chemical sector. Shri Dinesh Bouddh, Narcotics Commissioner of India, explained the statement of intent, while Shri Anil Ramteke, Chief Controller of Factories, Department of Revenue, Government of India, highlighted the imperative for responsible chemicals management.

Recognizing the challenges posed by the misuse of chemical precursors, the workshop highlighted the need for vigilant monitoring and responsible use at all stages of their life cycle. Information provided by a representative of the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) on global trends in chemical control enriched the discussions.

In a joint effort to combat illicit drug manufacturing, the workshop called for the adoption of a voluntary code of conduct, aimed at striking a balance between legitimate industrial use and prevention of diversion of chemicals to illegal purposes.

The workshop served as a platform to raise awareness among business stakeholders about the dangers associated with unclassified chemical substances, encouraging informed vigilance and responsible practices. The event ended with a round table and a vote of thanks.
