A white blood cell identified in humans

Hyderabad:Ohio State University scientists have identified a unique white blood cell in humans. It was found that it could regrow nerve fibers. This would therefore make it possible to treat people suffering from paralysis and neurological diseases. Notably, dead nerve cells cannot be replaced with new ones. Likewise, damaged nerve fibers usually do not grow back. The neurological deficits are therefore permanent.

Scientists have discovered that bone marrow cells can be transformed into powerful therapeutic tools. If stimulated by certain atoms in the laboratory, they can be transformed into cells allowing regeneration. They are said to help damaged nerve cells survive and regrow.
