A union activist was sentenced Tuesday to seven years in prison for a September arrest on drug and weapons charges, during which he fled police.

John A. Carpenter pleaded guilty to four counts: unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon and attempting to elude arrest. Franklin County Circuit Judge Craig Hellmann sentenced Carpenter to a total of 22 years in prison on the four counts, but ordered the sentences to run concurrently.
