A teenager who allegedly fled the scene of a fatal crash in Burwood, in Melbourne's east, has been arrested and charged

A teenager who police say fled the scene of a fatal collision involving an allegedly stolen car in Melbourne's east has been arrested and charged.

A 28-year-old Ashburton man has died after two vehicles collided at the intersection of Warrigal Road and Highbury Road in Burwood about 7pm on Tuesday.

Several men who were in a black Jeep Cherokee involved in the collision fled the scene.

The vehicle is believed to have been stolen during an aggravated burglary in Cranbourne South on June 28.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Malvern East at around 8.30pm on Wednesday and is due to appear in children's court today.

He was charged with wrongful driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, failure to stop and assist, theft of a motor vehicle and driving without a licence.

Two 15-year-old girls were arrested at the scene and charged with motor vehicle theft.

They were released on bail and will appear in juvenile court.
