A teenager is shot and injured in Fontana on June 13 | News

A teenager was shot and injured during an incident in north Fontana on June 13, according to the Fontana Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 9:06 p.m. in the area of ​​Raising Cane's, in the 16900 block of South Highland Avenue, Public Information Officer Daniel Romero said.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a vehicle attempting to flee the scene, which was later believed to be involved in the incident, Romero said.

Nearby, a 15-year-old victim was found on the ground with a gunshot wound to the upper body, just north of the restaurant. The victim was quickly transported to a local hospital, underwent surgery and is expected to survive.

An 18-year-old suspect, Gianni Pena, was arrested at the scene for illegal possession of a handgun.

This investigation remains active with investigators from the Fontana Police Gang Unit following leads to identify any other parties involved.
