A second teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed an elderly man in a 'horrific' manner.

A second teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an elderly man was stabbed in Wigan. Police were called following reports of a stabbing on Edge Hall Road, Orrell, at around 4pm last Thursday (June 27).

The victim, aged around 70, was rushed to hospital where he was seriously injured. He is receiving specialist treatment.




Greater Manchester Police initially arrested an 18-year-old man the following day, Friday 28 June, on suspicion of attempted murder. He is currently in custody.

Following further investigations, police have since arrested a second suspect, a 19-year-old man, on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for questioning by investigators.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Bell of GMP's Wigan District said: “Since this incident took place we have used our resources to ensure we can find the key people we believe are responsible for this horrific act.

“I hope our progress so far will reassure our local community that we are treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves and we would like to once again thank members of the public for assisting us with our investigations. “
