A rustic cabin near the shore of Pictured Rocks can be booked for the first time

MUNISING, MI – Starting today, online reservations for a rustic cabin at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and nearby Lake Superior shoreline will open for the first time.

Although the small cabin is not a new construction, it is the first time the building has been added to the reservation list for overnight campers, national park staff said this week.

The cost is $35 per flight and you can find the booking link here. The booking link will go live at 9am on Thursday, July 4th.

National park staff said the decision to make the cabin, located just west of Twelvemile Beach Campground, reservable for overnight visitors was made after hearing public feedback from park users last December. The cabin was later identified as a “desired public amenity,” they said.

Here's what to expect, according to park staff:

“The cabin is a rustic structure along the North Country National Scenic Trail (NCT), with no running water, electricity, or heat. It is accessed by parking in the old amphitheater parking lot (across from the first restrooms), then walking about a mile west to Twelvemile Beach Campground on the NCT.”

Other details from the rustic cabin site:

• There are composting toilets available
• Water is accessible at Twelvemile Beach Campground
• The cabin has two bunk beds with two twin beds and two full beds
• The cabin can accommodate a maximum of 8 people
• Animals are not allowed in the cabin
