BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The National Hurricane Center is monitoring the development of a potential tropical depression that is currently carrying showers and thunderstorms associated with a well-defined area of low pressure centered approximately 80 miles to the east-southeast from Brunswick, Georgia.

The system has increased the risk of developing into a tropical depression to 60% when it makes landfall in the next 24 hours.

Data taken from an Air Force Reserve reconnaissance plane shows the system lacks the organization necessary for the depression to be considered a tropical cyclone.

At the moment, the system is only experiencing a slight increase in the pattern of showers and thunderstorms, which could lead to the formation of a short-lived tropical depression before it reaches the northern coasts tonight -eastern Florida or Georgia.

Officials are still advising area residents to continue monitoring the system's progress.
