A northwest Iowa man was arrested Monday for allegedly trying to kill his family with an arson attack in Perry | Raccoon Valley Radio

A northwest Iowa man was arrested for allegedly trying to burn down his family's home in Perry on Monday.

According to court documents, Marcus Allen Durant, 38, of Rock Rapids, allegedly started a fire at his sister's residence in Perry Monday afternoon around 4:15 p.m. The documents state Durant was playing with the fire hose on his sister's porch and when his sister came out of the house to check on the situation, she noticed flames on her back porch. Durant's sister told police he showed up at the residence Sunday and broke several windows.

Court documents state that Durant resisted arrest by the Perry Police Department and had a medical episode while being transferred to the Dallas County Jail, and was quickly diverted to the Dallas County Hospital. A Perry police officer noted that Durant told them he threatened the family, saying, “I want you all to burn in hell,” and that he also threatened the officers. The documents state that two adults and a juvenile were in the home at the time of the alleged arson attempt.

Durant was arrested on three counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree harassment, fourth-degree criminal mischief and first-degree arson. Durant is being held in the Dallas County Jail without bail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring more information as soon as it becomes official.
