A national recall affects 462,000 Kia vehicles that could catch fire while driving.

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Automaker Kia America, Inc. is recalling thousands of vehicles due to fire hazards.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced in a press release on June 5 that Kia America, Inc. is recalling more than 462,000 of its 2020-2024 Telluride vehicles. The vehicles have a fault where the front power seat motor may overheat due to a stuck power seat slide button. This can lead to the car catching fire while parked or driving.

If you own one of the recalled Kia vehicles, we encourage you to park it outside and away from nearby buildings until the recall-related repair is completed. NHTSA said dealers will install a bracket for the rear power seat switch covers and replace the seat slide buttons free of charge.

Notification letters will be mailed to vehicle owners by July 30, 2024. Kia customer service can be reached at 1-800-333-4542. The recall number for these Kia vehicles is SC316.
