A man dies Sunday after Madison Township. mobile home fire

MADISON TOWNSHIP — A man died Sunday afternoon after a mobile home he was found in was engulfed in flames, according to Madison Township Fire Department Chief Kenneth Justus.

Joseph Nickrand, 53, was discovered around 4:49 p.m. at 476 Piper Road in Madison Township after firefighters forced their way into his locked camper.

Justus said Nickrand was removed from the RV with shallow breathing and a weak pulse. He received advanced life support treatment on site.

Nickrand was then transported to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital by medics from the Mifflin Township (Richland County) Fire Department. During transport, Justus said Nickrand suffered cardiac arrest.

All attempts to resuscitate him failed and he was pronounced dead at the Ohio Health Mansfield emergency department.

Justus said the fire appears to have been accidental.

The Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office responded and is investigating the cause of this fire.

The Richland County Sheriff's Office is also assisting in this investigation.

The box alarm's initial assignment was to the Madison Township Fire Department with two engines, Mifflin Township (Richland County) with one medical unit, and the Mansfield Fire Department with one engine.
