A man allegedly kidnapped a teenager in order to hold her for “sexual servitude”

Court documents shed new light on the kidnapping of a teenager in Ohio on Thursday.

She is now safe and a 38-year-old man is facing charges including human trafficking. The charges were filed after the two men were found in North Carolina.

Court documents state that Brandon Prichard “knowingly harbored and transported the 14-year-old girl with the intent that she be detained for sexual servitude.”

“It was definitely one of the lucky ones where they found her so quickly,” said Stephen Smith of A Wired Family.

Smith and his group, A Wired Family, travel across the Tri-State to educate parents and their children about technology safety.

A lot of the technology used by law enforcement may have helped find the girl, but a lot of the technology in the hands of children also makes that easier,” Smith said.

He said it is a constant challenge that children are getting phones at a younger age and the development of ever-changing technology.

“When we started this program in 2009, we started talking to juniors and seniors. Two years later, they were college students; Sometimes we talk to kids as early as first grade,” Smith said.

He said parents being more open with their children about using social media is key to keeping them safe.

“I always tell parents you may not be able to afford parental controls, but the greatest parental control is talking to your child,” Smith said.

He said setting guidelines before creating accounts is a good way to help, and it's also important to keep them private.

“Draft a contract on what they’re going to be able to do or not do, and review it every couple of months,” Smith said. “Talking with your children, there is nothing more important than that.”

Currently, Prichard is being held on $1 million bail.
