A grizzly bear attempts to snack on a bull moose near Idaho

Bears have been known to attack young elk, which irritates adult elk cows. I'm not sure if grizzly bears are in the habit of trying to take down a bull, but a man in Montana managed to get video of a bear chasing a bull. He was quite surprised by what he saw and told a Montana TV station that he was happy to be inside the car and not outside. After all, he could have become dinner for the hungry bear.

A few years ago I watched a Smithsonian Institute documentary. Bears in the Yellowstone region are increasingly attacking larger prey. This is because their usual diet of fish has been significantly reduced by invasive species. Bears are omnivores and will eat just about anything when they are hungry.

Meanwhile, black bears are a growing problem in southern Idaho. Fish and Game recently responded to a call in Blaine County. A man was out of town and his trash had not been picked up and was not secure. A mother bear and her cubs had prepared a meal with the contents. Bears conditioned to eat easily tend to come back. It's no different than us if someone prepares our meals. You prefer the simplest route.

I was in grizzly bear country a few years ago and warning signs informed me that there had been numerous sightings over the previous month. I decided I didn't want to commune with anyone and went back to my car. I have seen them in zoos. Curiosity satisfied.
