A convicted felon was arrested on guns and weapons charges

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A convicted felon is in custody after a car crash in West Haven led to the discovery of firearms and narcotics, police said.

Officers with the West Haven Police Department were called to a motor vehicle accident in the area of ​​First Ave. and Maple St. at around 8:00 pm on Saturday. At the scene, police observed a two-car collision that required a tow truck.

While investigating the crash, an officer noticed a loaded Glock 17 firearm supplied with a 24-round extended magazine inside one of the vehicles. A “Glock Switch,” which is a tiny tool that can continuously fire rounds of gunshots, was also seen on the firearm.

Taken into custody was 32-year-old Brandunn Ellis, who fled on foot from officers as they attempted to arrest him.

After a successful chase, officers also found Ellis to have a second firearm as well as narcotics inside a “cross-body bag.”

As a convicted felon with previous gun convictions, Ellis was not allowed to possess any weapons. His charges include:

  • Two Counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm
  • Two Counts of Weapons in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a High Capacity Magazine
  • Two Counts of Illegal Transfer of a Firearm
  • Criminal Attempt at Possession of a Machine Gun
  • Possession with Intent to Sell Narcotics
  • Interfering with an Officer

He is being held on a $250,000 bond and will appear at the Milford Superior Court within the next few days.
