A 42-year-old man is in stable condition after being shot at Harford Mall Sunday afternoon, Bel Air police say – Baltimore Sun

A 42-year-old man was shot inside Harford Mall Sunday afternoon, a Bel Air Police Department spokesperson said.

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. and the victim was transported by helicopter to a Baltimore trauma center in stable condition, police said. Police also said a suspect was identified and his vehicle was found unoccupied in Edgewood.

“Through witness accounts, they were able to identify a possible suspect vehicle, which led to a possible suspect in the shooting, who is also an adult male,” police spokesman Keith Smithson said. “We have identified them, so there is no exceptional risk that we need the community to look for. »

Police said there was no active shooter, the scene was contained and the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident involving the victim and suspect.

“It is sad and absolutely intolerable to see such blatant disregard for life, especially the lives of our children. I am grateful for the quick, highly professional, well-coordinated and very effective response by first responders,” Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly said in a statement.

The department and Harford County Sheriff's Office asked the public to avoid the area while they investigate the shooting. A spokesperson for CBL Properties, which owns Harford Mall, declined to comment Sunday evening.

“I have full confidence in these agencies to ensure that today’s events will be properly investigated,” said County Councilman Aaron Penman, who is also a sergeant with the county sheriff’s office. “It’s unfortunate that things like this happen, but I don’t think it’s within our jurisdiction.”
