A Mississippi teenager has been charged with attempted murder and first-degree arson after allegedly stabbing her mother multiple times and attempting to set the residence on fire.

Lexi Jade Brown, 15, was arrested after police responded to a Gulfport, Mississippi, residence early Friday morning, June 14, “in reference to a cutting incident,” Gulfport police said in a statement Monday. They found a woman with multiple stab wounds.

Investigators say the alleged victim woke up to Brown stabbing her as she lay in bed, adding that “Brown then attempted to start a fire inside the residence.”

During the investigation, Brown allegedly told authorities she planned to kill her mother because the alleged victim was a “weird bitch,” the statement said.

Brown reportedly said her mother “repressed the black side in her,” according to the statement, but she did not further clarify the reference.
