A Mississippi teenager has been charged with attempted murder and first-degree arson after allegedly stabbing her mother multiple times and attempting to set the residence on fire.

Lexi Jade Brown, 15, was arrested after police responded to a Gulfport, Mississippi, residence early Friday morning, June 14, “in reference to a cutting incident,” Gulfport police said in a statement Monday. They found a woman with multiple stab wounds.

The alleged victim woke up to see Brown stabbing her while she was lying in bed, according to investigators, adding that “Brown then attempted to start a fire inside the residence.”

During the investigation, Brown allegedly told authorities that she planned to kill her mother because the alleged victim was a “weird bitch,” the release states.

Brown allegedly said her mother “suppressed the black in her,” according to the statement, but that did not further clarify the reference.

Brown is being held in an adult detention center on $1.25 million bail, police said. Juveniles over the age of 13 are tried as adults for criminal offenses in the state.
