95 mph wind gust near Tahoka, power outage and stranded vehicles after storm

LUBBOCK, Texas — Power outages were reported in Lynn County and vehicles remained stranded along roadways after a storm ravaged the area late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, officials said.

The Texas Tech Mesonet measured violent wind gusts of up to 95 mph near Tahoka overnight. The strong wind gusts occurred between 2:53 a.m. and 3:02 a.m.

An emergency alert from Lynn County Emergency Management said water was covering parts of Highway 380 and County Roads AA to YY. Authorities said vehicles were stranded on the side of the road. The Lynn County Sheriff's Office said water was flowing on the roads.

Power was cut after lines northeast of Tahoka went down, officials said. Excel Energy crews were on site and power should be restored late Wednesday afternoon or evening.

Storm damage was also reported in Levelland. Authorities said eight people were slightly injured.
