911 calls and incident report of Peachtree Center shooting released

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The incident report for Tuesday's shooting at the Peachtree Center mall has been released by Atlanta police, along with several 911 calls.

Police said the shooting happened at 235 Peachtree Street around 2:15 p.m. This neighborhood is surrounded by businesses, restaurants, and hotels.

The incident occurred in the food court of the Peachtree Center mall after a fight between two people, according to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. The building was locked.

The suspected shooter, later identified as Jeremy Malone, 34, of Morrow, allegedly fought with a 47-year-old man in the food court and shot him, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and Atlanta . police. Officials say Morrow continued to walk through the courthouse, shooting a 69-year-old woman from East Point and a 70-year-old woman from Atlanta.

An off-duty police officer working a second job responded to the shots and told Malone to drop the gun. When Malone did not do so, “an exchange of gunfire” took place and the officer shot Malone, according to the incident report.

Three of the victims were identified as Deborah Hardy, Donna Hardy and Orlando Garcia.

Police made a 911 call from Willy's Mexicana Grill during the shooting; The call, apparently from an employee, details two women in the restaurant with gunshot wounds.

Deborah Hardy spoke to Atlanta News First after her release from the hospital. She said she and her sister Donna were focused on protecting their 3-year-old niece.

“I didn’t pay them any attention. We were trying to find something to eat,” she said. “And then they started shooting. I didn't even realize I had been shot in the leg.

Malone faces five charges: aggravated assault, reckless driving, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission or attempt to commit certain felonies and third-degree cruelty to children, according to Fulton County Jail records. .
