85-year-old child molester sentenced to eight years | Local News

An 85-year-old man pleaded guilty to child molestation this month and was sentenced to eight years in prison by the Indiana Department of Corrections.

Marlin Myers was 70 years old and lived in a subdivision in the Thorntown area southeast of US 52 and Ind. 47 at the time he molested a girl younger than 14 between 2009 and 2014, according to court records.

The girl didn't tell anyone until she was a teenager in 2021, according to a probable cause affidavit. Her parents made a report and the girl was interviewed at the Sylvia Children's Advocacy Center in Lebanon. The girl gave intimate details of the abuse she suffered during her interview there.

But Myers did not grant a police interview at the time.

He pleaded guilty to the Level 1 felony on May 23.

Boone Circuit Court Judge Lori Schein divided his sentence into two four-year segments, with the first served on electronically monitored home detention and the other four on supervised probation.
