82-year-old man with dementia now missing from Laurens County

Garland Warren went missing around 3 p.m. and was last seen in Fort Valley and Twiggs County on Highway 96.

LAURENS COUNTY, Ga. — A man suffering from dementia is missing in Laurens County, according to the Laurens County Sheriff's Office.

Garland Warren, 82, disappeared Monday around 3 p.m. He is described as having gray hair, brown eyes and being 5 feet 6 inches tall and 170 pounds.

The Laurens County Sheriff's Office also made a Facebook post because Warren suffers from dementia, Lt. Thad DeLoach confirmed.

“We don’t know where he’s going; we don’t know if he really knows where he’s going,” DeLoach said. “We believe he has just left the wheel and may be disoriented as to where he is going or what the purpose of his travel is.”

Warren's vehicle, a 2003 Toyota Tundra, was last detected by flocked cameras in Fort Valley and Twiggs County on Highway 96. DeLoach estimated he was an hour and a half away from the sheriff's office.

DeLoach noted that flock cameras are accessible by several other agencies. He said those police departments and other sheriff's offices would be alerted if Warren's truck was captured on herd cameras again.

“We hope someone spots it,” DeLoach said. “Someone who has been on social media or another agency that has seen and is perhaps doing a routine patrol. Maybe they will see him, arrest him, make contact with him and try to return him to his family.

The Laurens County Sheriff's Office hopes to return Warren to his family soon. They noted that there is a sense of urgency due to his dementia.

Anyone who saw Warren, his vehicle or has more details should call the Laurens County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Unit at 478-272-1522, or call 911.
