FLUSHING, Queens (PIX11) — Officers have shot and killed a man accused of stabbing an 8-year-old boy to death in Flushing on July 4, according to the NYPD.

The incident happened at an apartment on Sutphin Boulevard, police said. A 29-year-old woman was seen on surveillance video running out of the home after being stabbed in the back, screaming for help.

Authorities say a man allegedly threatened his 42-year-old father with a knife over a kitchen sink after fatally stabbing the 8-year-old boy. He refused to obey commands given in English to drop the kitchen knife he was holding, police said.

Officers fired a single shot at the suspect, killing him, authorities said.

An 8-month-old baby girl was rescued by officers from inside the apartment, police said. She suffered no physical injuries.

The boy was stabbed more than a dozen times, EMS sources told PIX11 News.

The woman and the 42-year-old man were hospitalized for their injuries. The relationship between the boy and the suspect is unclear, authorities said.
