8 injured in a shooting on a paddling pool in the Detroit region; dead suspect

Eight people were injured after a man opened fire on a paddling pool in Rochester Hills, Michigan on Saturday evening, officials said.

Rochester Hills is about 30 minutes north of Detroit.

According to the Sheriff's Bureau of the County of Oakland, the suspect of the shooting has now died. The authorities say he committed suicide.

Earlier in the evening, the sheriff of the County of Oakland, Michael Bouchard, said that the shooter was confined in a house about 800 meters from the scene.

Initially, the authorities thought there could be up to 10 victims, but this figure was lowered on Saturday evening. They were neat in four neighboring hospitals.

The sheriff of the County of Oakland, Michael Bouchard, did not know the details of all the victims, but he said that at least one of them was an 8 -year -old child.

The suspect reportedly arrived shortly after 5 p.m., then approached the spray area, reportedly firing more than 20 shots before leaving the scene. Several firearms have been recovered at the scene, the authorities said.

“It's heartbreaking … All my thoughts with families at the moment,” said the mayor of Rochester Hills, Bryan K. Barnett.

Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer said she was in contact with local authorities and that she was monitoring updates as they arrive.
