79-year-old woman identified as victim of June 30 Kansas City shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 79-year-old woman has died days after a shooting in Kansas City, Missouri.

The shooting was reported Sunday, June 30, near East 51st Street and Park Avenue.


The Kansas City Police Department reports that officers responded to the shooting around 9:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers located a shooting victim, Ella Monroe, unconscious inside a vehicle at the intersection of 51st and Park Avenue.

KCPD detectives and crime scene investigators then began processing the scene for evidence and searching for potential witnesses.

Police said the investigation into the case continued in the days that followed. Investigators were informed on the morning of Wednesday, July 3, that Monroe had died from her injuries.

KCPD said this is a homicide investigation.
